We’re very honored to have been selected as one of the 15 participants to showcase our art installation for IDEABOX at Design Shenzhen, held from 21st to 24th March 2024.
IDEABOX stands as an artistic feature of the exhibition, focusing on design objects and lifestyles. This section is curated by Huang Guo Dong, co-founder of Accidental Design/Rushi Brand. This year’s theme on “materials” offers a compelling opportunity for design participants to showcase their creative interpretations.
We wanted to showcase the rich natural materials and the exquisite craftsmanship from Indonesia. This project is an excellent opportunity for repurposing some of our discarded materials.
INSPIRATION
Indonesia is the world’s fourth most populous country. It boasts a rich culture shaped by over a thousand indigenous ethnic groups, three centuries of Dutch colonial history, along with immigrant influences from Chinese, Indian and Arab groups.
The idea draws inspiration from the Banyan tree, a symbol of unity in Indonesian national principles. The numerous branches represent the diverse cultures that have shaped the nation across generations, converging harmoniously as a singular entity.
This project is an excellent opportunity for repurposing some of our discarded materials.
We mostly weave with leftover rattan, which have been set aside due to incorrect coloration or worn-off colors. We repurposed wooden pallets for the wooden frame and reused the leftover saw dust to cover the bottom area of the installation.
The lower weaving remains unfinished, symbolizing the creative potential of future generations, inspired by diverse cultures.
We want to thank Design Shenzhen for giving the Sansi House team the opportunity to show our creative work.
